Alexander Pullen (marimba) and Jasmine Brown (Saxophone), joint winners of the 2016 Young Musician Competition, accompanied by their very talented siblings Harry Brown on saxophone and Nick Pullen on guitar gave us a varied and stimulating concert.  We will be seeing much more of these very talented young people in future without a doubt.

Well!  What a treat we had.  Seven excellent young musicians competing for our annual award.  They were all wonderful and our adjudicator had a very hard time trying to decide the winner.  In fact, he felt that two of them were so good that the first prize should be shared by them.  Alexander Pullen (playing the marimba) and Jasmine Brown (playing the saxophone) were the worthy winners and will give a concert at our AGM next February.  Don’t miss it!

Once again our annual Young Musician of the Year competition provided us with an afternoon of wonderful music by the young musicians chosen to compete .  The winner of the first prize of £500 was Rachel Ridout (a wonderful vocalist) and the runner-up prize of £100 was awarded to Jasmine Blackshaw-Britton (very talented young cellist who was the youngest of the contestants).  The standard of our competitors was very high so congratulations to all who took part.  Rachel will be providing the concert after the AGM on 13th February 2016 so do come along then and hear her sing.

Alexandra Ridout, along with friends and family treated, us to a wonderful concert of classical music and jazz.  This very talented young trumpeter, who was the winner of our 2014 Young Musician Competition, put together a programme showing a great mix of styles which really highlighted the range of her abilities.  Once again we have been thrilled by the performance of one of the talented young people in this area and wish her very well for her future in music.

Look out for the Young Musician Competition 2015 which we will be holding on on Sunday, 1st November 2015.  This year we have decided to widen the catchment for applicants to cover Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire so if you know of any young music student aged between 12 and 18 years old who would like to apply they can load down the form from this site.  The first prize is £500 and Runner-up prize £100 so well worth trying for.

What a super evening!  We were treated to a feast of music by Iona Manley (our 2012 Young Musician of the Year who plays violin and piano) and her friends Cameron Manley (piano and oboe), Kimberley Smith (euphonium), Mary Browning (piano), Emily Denyer (singing)and Milton Keynes Music Centre Piano Quintet with Iona Manley (violin), John Nicholls (violin), Steph Musgrave (viola), Wayne Chan (cello), Joseph Hyde (piano).  There are certainly some very talented young people in our area and we wish them all well for the future.
